Great Deal

Morgans favorite food of course-pears and mangos

I thought I would share this since so many other mommies out there love deals and Im all about a deal. Tonight I went to spend the $12 in R us Awards at Babies R Us. Not sure what I would get I looked around and found an awesome deal.

Today until Monday they have the Earths Best 1st and 2nd foods on sale 20 jars for $10 which is 50 cents.

Normally this food is 99 cents at Babies R us and the cheapest I have ever seen it was 67 cents when Babies R Us was running another promotion but normally the cheapest I ever get it is 72 cents at Wal-Mart.

So to say the least I stocked up on it and got 40 jars for only $8  (after the $12 R Us awards) which is a grand total of 20 cents a jar!! This deal is only good until Monday so dont delay!

Baby Food

Well Ive been meaning to post a followup to the homemade baby food post here.

For the containers, they are not nearly as good as I thought they were when I bought them or when I posted. After freezing them I soon discovered that the lids dont shut on all of them only some of them. If you just close them and dont freeze then they are fine but if you are doing baby food you will want to freeze it. So I guess the original ice cube trays are the only option.

So how did Morgan like the homemade baby food you may ask? Well to be honest she HATED it. She refused to eat it and is really particular about her food. She will only eat Earths Best and not any other brand. When I try to feed her any other brand/homemade food she refuses to open her mouth.

So our verdict is I guess we will be buying Earths Best until we can get her to eat table food.

Questions Answered...

Ive had a few questions lately and thought I would just answer them at once....

1) when are you going to start?
We are trying to get rice cereal down and then once she gets that down I will start trying to make the baby food.

2) Did something happen to her nose? It looks like it got injured or something. Hope she's okay!
She has a hemangioma which should go away by the time she is 1-2 years old. We have gone to a plastic surgeon and a pediatric ENT just to make sure it was not going to grow into her nose and block her breathing. THe pediatric ENT wasnt concerned at all and said it may get a little worst before it gets better but should start going down by the time she is 9 months old.

3) Did your ped recommend juice?
she did not recommend juice but said we could try it out if we wanted to but again it was up to us. She never recommended regular juice but infant juice which is super diluted if we wanted to do juice. Its something that we will not be doing for a while or even thinking about until we get all of the vegetables and fruits in order.

For an update on the cereal-we tried her twice and she has just screamed bloody murder on it.
Picture of the 2nd day
We are taking a few days off and seeing if maybe she will do better later. I had a recommendation to try oatmeal instead of rice and somehow that seemed to work for others if they dont take to cereal first.

Right now Morgan is still breastfeeding twice a day (morning and at night) and then taking a bottle of formula 3X a day. Ive learned my lesson the hard way that she does not want to take a bottle of formula at night because the few times Ive given her formula at night she has not slept well at all. Breastfeeding is still going well for the 2X Im feeding her but if we go out at night it makes it really tough.

Ive also read up on the review of the Beaba Babycook from Williams-Sonoma which I have eyed since I saw it months ago. After reading many reviews online Ive come to the conclusion that I would be spending a lot more time with it. Im leaning right now to just buying a steamer and then I can cook a lot more food and just freeze it. If anyone has any recommendations for specifics please let me know.

Also, for storage of the food if you have any recommendations please let me know.

Any other questions please let me know:)

Just a few pictures
how I found Morgan the other morning when I went to pick her up. Yes her little leg was hanging out and she also turned herself all the way around. Her head was at the top of the bumper when I laid her down.

Happy girl after her shots-you can see she got shots on both legs and she got tweety bird bandaids:)

Baby Food

Our pediatrician has given us the go ahead to start eating solids and well last night didnt go over so well. We took a video and Morgan cried just about the entire time. I dont think it was necessarily the taste she didnt like she just couldnt figure out how to swallow it and started to get very frustrated with it.

Some ideas of when to start solids...
  • doubles birth weight and weighs at least 13 lbs (Morgan now weighs 13 lbs but hasnt doubled her birth weight yet)
  • seems hungry after 8 to 10 breastfeedings a day or drinks 32 oz of formula a day (has a long way to go before this)
  • lifts and supports head (can do this pretty well)
Schedule of what to do and when...
Single Grain Cereal-rice, oatmeal or barley cereal
Day 1-1 tbsp + 4 tbsp of breastmilk or formula
Day 2-2 tbsp + 4 tbsp of breastmilk or formula
Day 3-3 tbsp + 4 tbsp of breastmilk or formula
Day 4-4 tbsp + 4 tbsp of breastmilk or formula

Until they have totally completed the stage dont move on to the next day. So for instance Morgan didnt come close to finishing day 1 so we will be back to day 1 tonight to try it out.

Next thing she recommends is a vegetable. The reason to do a vegetable before a fruit is if you introduce a sweet before a vegetable they may not go back.
Single Vegetables-2.5 oz jar portion
Green Beans, Peas, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Squash
Day 1-1/4 jar of one vegetable
Day 2-1/4 jar of same vegetable
Day 3-1/2 jar of same vegetable
Day 4-1 jar of same vegetable

Single Fruits-2.5 oz jar portion
Applesauce, Peaches, Prunes, Bananas, Pears
Day 1-1/4 jar of one fruit
Day 2-1/4 jar of same fruit
Day 3-1/2 jar of same fruit
Day 4-1 jar of same fruit

100% Infant Juice-Single Ingredient
Apple, Pear, White Grape Juice
Day 1- 1 fl oz
Day 2-1.5 fl. oz
Day 3-1.5 fl. oz
Day 4-2 fl. oz
Dont try until they have had a variety of 1st Foods (vegetables and fruits)

Our pediatrician also said to make sure to keep things to 1 product every 3-4 days to make sure they have no allergic reaction to the product.

Hope this helps! If anyone has any suggestions on things please share. Day 2 of Day 1  cereal went a littl e better but still not great. She ended up eating about half of it so we will be back to day 1 tomorrow until she can finish the entire thing.

For 2nd foods-Our pediatrician said to  not start those until she was 6 mths old.

The Fair

Yesterday we went to the fair with some friends of ours and thought I can always use a nice long walk and it was a pretty day. We went right after church and ate lunch there. Well I figured I could find something that might agree with my stomach since I of course cant eat much now. I got a Penn's Chicken on a stick which sounded so good at the time but it didn't last long. I was only able to eat about half of it. I think I downed several ounces of sprite to combat the almost throwing up experience and somehow that helped.

I sure learned my lesson that I should have learned the first time I ate fried food, just dont eat it as good as it might sound. Im still paying for my experience and feel like I cant eat much. The only thing that has helped has been Preggie pop drops they are a lifesaver! My stomach has sure been super sensitive yesterday and today, Sprite isnt even seeming to help like it used to.

Tomorrow marks 8 weeks...yeah!
